As of now the owner and manager of Hilo’s Farmers Market is local Keith De La Cruz. In Hilo, Hawaii De La Cruz has made a name for himself and yet if you see him on a market day you would never realize he is the owner of Hilo’s famous farmers market as he is a humble man. What started as a modest gathering quickly gained popularity, evolving into the vibrant market we know today.

Ahhhh now that you are on the beautiful island of Hawaii you might be wondering what the best produce stands on the island are.
- Hilo is known to be the wettest city in the US. That being said, be sure to bring an umbrella whenever you venture outside on the Big Island of Hawaii. While most of the vendors sell their products or products under the newly constructed roof to get between the produce stands, food stands, and souvenir stands you’ll be walking out in the open air, so be sure to bring an umbrella and a light raincoat.
- When visiting Hilo’s Market, although it is technically open daily, the best days to go to Hilo’s Farmer’s Market are on Wednesdays & Saturdays. These days are called the “big market days” which means there would be more vendors and fun on Wednesdays & Saturdays. As a local I try not to bargain as all of these vendors are making a living from selling their products and work hard to live on this very beautiful and expensive Hawaiian land.
- If you’re trying to save a buck or two head over to Hilo’s Walmart to buy generic Hawaiian souvenirs. Hilo’s market place is for more authentic products and produce.
- To make the most of your visit to Hilo Farmers Market, it is recommended that you arrive early in the morning when the market is less crowded. Know that there is a huge cruise ship that comes normally and hauls even more people to enjoy the market! This will give you more time to browse the stalls and enjoy the local flavors.

Many would park off of Kamehameha street right on bay front and simply walk less than 5 mins towards the market.
